Maker’s Series: Peanuts

Maker’s Series: Peanuts

Meet Stephanie and Jeffrey, the husband and wife team who are getting their hands dirty to bring us our brand new (outstanding!) Virginia peanuts. This power couple co-owns the farm with Jeffrey’s brothers in a family business that dates back to the late 1800s. They grow nothing but jumbo Virginia peanuts, and in our humble opinion they’re the Best. Peanuts. Ever. (Seriously, if you find any better, we dare you to challenge us.)

Maker’s Series: Peanuts

Peanut farming is no walk-in-the-park. A typical day on the farm involves monitoring the crops for fertility and water needs and assessing competition from weeds, diseases, and insects. Managing those risks are a big challenge and makes for a volatile business. But these 4th generation peanut farmers say, “it’s our family’s love of maintaining and caring for the very same land that our ancestors have nurtured more than a century that makes it all worth it.”

Steph and Jeff say that each peanutty batch is cooked to order in pure unadulterated peanut oil with absolutely no preservatives. The result is a slightly blistered texture that’s like no other peanut you’ve ever experienced. They have a crisp, snap-like crunch and a fresh taste that’s both addictive and satisfying. You’ll totally get it once you try ‘em!

A few fun facts: Peanuts, which are not actually nuts but legumes aka beans, are more closely related to peas than to tree nuts. They grow underground in about four to five months. With about 7 grams of protein per ounce, they have more protein than any other nut (probably because they’re actually beans!) Peanuts are the #1 snack nut in the US – and in the Nourish Snacks office.

We feature these babies in our ever-so-savory snack, Raise The Bar-BQ.
