Fueled by Nourish: Roxy Te

Fueled by Nourish

People all over the country are fueled by Nourish Snacks. We’re constantly inspired by the passion, creativity, and drive that we see in our customers. We’re kicking off a new “Fueled by Nourish” series in which we highlight some of these inspirational members of the Nourish family. We caught up with Roxy Te, the founder and head designer at Society Social, a furniture company with a big heart, a love of modern style, and an insatiable penchant for fun and flair.

Roxy, tell us about what you do?

I’m the owner and designer at Society Social. Basically I design beautiful and affordable quirky bar carts and colorful sofas, and send them out into the world!

Society Social has come so far. Share a little bit about your journey.

I truly believe that life is a party, so you and your home should be well-equipped to celebrate it. It all began in August 2011 with six originally designed bar carts. In less than four months, we found ourselves listed amongst House Beautiful’s “The Best”, and in the pages of HGTV, Southern LivingReal Simple, The Huffington Post, Apartment Therapy, Daily Candy, and Lonny to name just a few.

From the very start, this business was personal. Literally raised in my family’s furniture factory, I grew up learning the ins and outs of creating exceptional pieces in an old school (lots of elbow grease) kind of way. Society Social is proud to continue the tradition of creating quality furnishings available at a budget-friendly price.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My puppy and I hop on the 6 train to Soho in Manhattan to the Society Social showroom. I start with a call to the factory in North Carolina where my designs are brought to life. The rest of the day is a mix of design consultations (Need a pink wingback chair? We got it!) and business duties forcing me to be both creative to administrative, which is a big challenge. I have to wear many hats!

What is the most nourishing part of your job?

I absolutely love seeing my designs in real customers’ homes. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day problems but seeing how a customer makes my products their own reminds me why I love what I do. It’s incredibly “nourishing” for the soul!

How do you stay energized during a busy day?

Aside from my obligatory morning coffee run, I try to eat small meals and snacks throughout the day to keep my energy levels stable. A typical day for me looks like a green shake and sometimes two pieces of bacon (full disclosure!) for breakfast, a salad with protein for lunch, a filling snack in the afternoon, and a balanced dinner filled with lots of protein and veggies.

What is inspiring you right now?

We just re-decorated my showroom in beautiful blues and whites. It feels so light and fresh and inspires creativity in me. Bring it on, summer!

How do you get it all done?

Google Calendar saves my life. I put everything in there and I always set notifications so that I’m reminded of everything from tax deadlines to my next workout class to the day this interview was due!! 😉

How do you nourish the ones you love?

I love to feed them! Communal meals bring friends and family together in a way that nothing else can do. Add in some wine and I call it a win-win.

What is your favorite Nourish Snacks flavor?

I love Coco’nilla Crunch. Coconuts on everything please.
