Tell us about what you do
I blog full time for The College Prepster, which I started as a freshman at Georgetown university in 2008. I recently moved out of NYC to Connecticut and love this new pace of life. You can find me on Instagram and Twitter.
You’ve had an amazing journey to success. Tell us some of your biggest milestones.
Quitting my full time job a year and a half after graduation to work for myself was definitely a huge milestone for me. It was terrifying, but it was also the best decision I’ve made.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Every day is different, but I spend a lot of time on my computer. Responding to emails is the bulk of my day. Then, of course, there’s content creation (writing posts, photographing outfits, answering Tweets, responding to questions on Tumblr, etc.). I think people assume bloggers have glamorous lives, and absolutely there are glamorous moments, but for the most part it’s pretty much like a lot of jobs… desk work!
What is the most nourishing part of your job?
For me, meeting readers and corresponding with them is the absolute best. I would still blog if no one read it, but it’s incredible to actually get to connect with people and hear their stories. It definitely keeps me going when I’m tired or uninspired!
How do you stay energized during a busy day?
Working from home has opened my eyes to how I work most productively. For years (at school and in my full time job), deadlines and showing up was generally dictated by someone else. Now, I can set my own schedule with my own rules. I know that I work best early in the morning and after dinner. So I try to get the bulk of my work done before lunch, take the afternoon off, and then get back to work at night. I end up working so much more efficiently with that break and can be so much more productive. During the afternoon break, I love to get outside with my dog, work out, or just pick up a good book. It gives me the energy I need for my second wind!
What is inspiring you right now?
I’ve been following some of my friends and their healthy New Year’s resolutions… It actually inspired me to work out more! I used to hate working out, but now that I do it regularly, I feel so much more alert and awake throughout the day.
How do you get it all done?
I always start my day by writing a to-do list of everything that has to get done and all the things I’d like to get done. Then, dividing my day into sections and placing the to-dos into the different sections really helps me stay on track. In the morning, when I’m most motivated and alert, I try to get through all my emails which takes quite some time and queuing up answers to reader questions on Tumblr. In the afternoon, when the lighting is best, I try to shoot my outfits for the blog or Instagrams for the day. And then at night, I do the bulk of my photo editing and blog post writing.
How do you nourish the ones you love?
I try to spend one-on-one time with the people I love. With so much of our lives happening through electronics, it’s extra important that we spend actual time together!
